Introduction to LocalStrong.org

What is LocalStrong.org?

LocalStrong.org is a platform for connecting local community consisting of four main components:

  • A Local Marketplace – Shop local, browse new & used local goods, find tickets to local events, search local vouchers, donate to local fundraisers & find advertising for your business. All new goods must be domestically-made to be included in our marketplace.
  • A Platform to List & Sell – No listing fees. 95.5% of your marketplace sales go to you. Of the remaining 4.5%, 3.5% supports LocalStrong.org and 1% supports animal rescue through our Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash Program.
  • Local Talk – Browse thought-provoking stories & ideas about local, by local. Create a blog and share your content for free. Add text, images, links & podcasts to your blog. Monetize your blog by selling advertising space to local businesses.
  • Local Pages – Your go-to local directory. Find everyone and everything you need right in your own backyard. Include your listing for free.

In which countries and regions is LocalStrong.org available?

LocalStrong.org is structured to incorporate services by country and/or region. LocalStrong.org USA offers its platform to community members residing in the United States and Puerto Rico. We look forward to expanding to more countries and regions in the near future!

Registration & Account Activation 

How do I join the LocalStrong.org community?

Joining LocalStrong.org is easy and free! By joining, you will have access to all of LocalStrong.org’s features to connect you to everything local. Simply fill out the Registration Form and click the ‘Register’ button at the bottom of the form. Once your form is submitted, you will be directed to activate your account.

How do I activate my account?

After submitting our Registration Form, you will be automatically redirected to the Activate My Registration page. On this page, you will be asked to re-enter your email address for confirmation and click the “Activate My Account” button.

You will then be emailed a link to set your account password and login. This process helps us verify your account and keep LocalStrong.org safe and secure for everyone.

My registration process was interrupted. Can I still activate my account?

Yes! If you are not automatically redirected to activate your account or your registration process was interrupted, please visit the Activate My Registration page for further instructions. You will also be sent the link to this page via email upon submitting your initial registration form.

My Account, Profile & Settings 

What is my Account Dashboard?

In your Account Dashboard, you will find copies of your orders from purchases made through our Local Marketplace, links to purchased e-tickets and vouchers, and links to available downloads from purchases of digital goods.

Also in your Account Dashboard are options to change your email address, password, and default Shipping & Billing Addresses.

What is my profile?

Your LocalStrong.org profile displays all your published content and includes additional links to help easily navigate through our site. Other members can view your profile to see all your blog posts and listings in one place. Members can easily choose to follow your content or message you with the respective links provided in the upper right hand corner of your profile image.

How do I upload my own profile image?

Visit the About Tab of your profile and click ‘Change Profile Photo’ to upload a new profile image.

Can I adjust my profile visibility?

Your profile content is visible to all members of LocalStrong.org. Optional fields in the About Tab of your profile such as your display name, address, and ‘About Me’ content can be left blank or hidden through the ‘Profile Visibility’ tab of your Settings Menu for privacy.

How can I modify the e-mail notifications I receive?

Visit the Email tab of your Settings menu to adjust email notifications. You will be able to select which optional notifications you would like to receive by toggling the ‘Yes/No’ fields to the right of each option. Please note: Certain email notifications, such as password reset links and vendor order notifications, are mandatory for the functionality of the site and cannot be turned off.

Can I change my username?

We recommend choosing a username to keep for the duration of your LocalStrong.org activity to ensure your content is easily recognizable by your followers. However, if you decide you would like to change your username for any reason, you are able to do so though the ‘Change Username’ tab of your Settings menu. Please note that we offer no guarantee that content posted under your former username will be transferable or searchable on our platform after the change.

How do I delete my account?

We’re sorry to see you go! If there is anything we can do to change your mind, please Contact Us prior to deleting your account.

If you have still decided to delete your account, please visit the ‘Delete Account’ tab of your Settings menu. Your content will be erased and irrecoverable following your account deletion.

Messages & Notifications

What are LocalStrong.org messages and how do I access them?

LocalStrong.org’s private message system allows you to send and receive messages to other LocalStrong.org members without disclosing your personal email address. Messages can include subjects, formatted text content, and uploaded attachments. You can view your Inbox, Sent, Starred, and Draft messages from the main Message menu.  When you receive a new message, you will automatically be sent a notification to the personal email address on file with your LocalStrong.org account. If you would like to disable notifications for new messages, you can do so from the Email tab within your Settings menu.

What are LocalStrong.org notifications and how do I access them?

LocalStrong.org’s notification system notifies you when other members interact with your content or send you a message. Notifications can be accessed from the My Local menu. To change email notification settings, please visit the Email tab of your Settings menu.

What type of listings are included in the Local Marketplace?

How do I shop your marketplace if I don’t have an account with LocalStrong.org?

To shop our marketplace, you must first join the LocalStrong.org community by filling out our free Registration Form. We require all shoppers to also be members of our site.  This ensures the best possible experience for both our vendors and customers. For more information on creating account, please visit the Registration & Account Activation section.

How do I shop and search for listings once I’m a member?

Visit our Local Marketplace page and interact with our search filters to browse listings of interest to you. Use the orange “Search” button to view search results and the “Learn More” buttons on each listing to view the listing details.

Please note: The “Search by Distance” filter pre-populates your location to auto-select listings near you. If you wish to change your location, simply click the ‘X’ in the corner of the text-box and enter a new location by typing a City, State or Address in the text-box or click the  icon that appears to geo-locate your current location.

How do I remit payment to the vendor to purchase an item or tickets to an event?

LocalStrong.org offers different listing types to vendors so payment options may differ based on listing type.

Many of our listings are available for purchase directly through our website. If the listing you are viewing contains an “Add to Cart” button, simply add the item to your cart and checkout as usual.

If you are viewing an informational listing, such as a Local Pickup Only Item, ‘Contact Me First’ product, or Vendor Event Space listing, the listing owner will provide specific instructions on how to proceed with purchase.

If you are viewing a listing for a free community event, the listing owner will provide instructions on how to attend the event.

What are Local Vouchers?

Local Vouchers are prepaid printable vouchers for business services that can be purchased through our website. Businesses may offer discounted vouchers or introductory offers for their services through the use of Local Vouchers. Upon your purchase of a Local Voucher, you will be sent a link to print your voucher to redeem in-person at a business’s location for your purchased services.

What are Ad Space listings?

Local businesses can promote their products and services through Ad Space listings to be featured within a LocalStrong.org blog. Ad space listings are an opportunity for bloggers to earn income by having businesses advertise on their blog, and at the same time, help local businesses gain visibility. Rates and duration for advertising opportunities are determined by the individual blogger, not through LocalStrong.org.

What are People Meeting Events and Community Events?

Our event listings are split into two main categories: People Meeting Events and Community Events.

What are People Meeting Events? Ever been to a coffee shop and wish you could talk to everyone in the room? Well, at a People Meeting Event you can! Attendees come knowing that everyone is open to networking and meeting new people.

If your event does not meet the definition of a People Meeting event or is less focused on networking and more focused on a performance or specialized group (Ex: Theatre, Concert, Dance, etc.), please register your event as a Community event.

What are Vendor Event Space listings?

A listing for Vendor Event Space is an opportunity for businesses to sell goods or services at local events. People hosting local events such as craft shows, antique shows, and People Meeting Events can create listings for Vendor Event Space to monetize their events through the sale of vendor booths. Contact instructions are included to secure a booth at events.

What is the Shipping Policy?

LocalStrong.org USA requires all vendors to provide free shipping within the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Additional shipping policies, including estimated fulfillment times, are not enforced site-wide and vary from vendor to vendor. Each vendor is responsible for their own operations and setting additional policies pertinent to their business.

What is the Refund & Return Policy?

Refund and return policies vary by vendor, as each vendor is responsible for their own operations and setting policies pertinent to their business. However, LocalStrong.org policy limits the total available refund amount by any vendor to 95.5% of the purchase price. The remaining 4.5% constitutes the administrative transaction fee that supports LocalStrong.org and our Doggie Dollars and Kitty Cash program. This fee cannot be refunded.

How do I leave a review for my purchase?

Visit the ‘Leave a Review’ Tab of your Account Dashboard. You will find a list of your purchased products and the review status of each product.

How do I set up my storefront?

Visit your Vendor Dashboard and configure your Store Settings to get started. Store Settings include your Stripe Account for payment processing, Store Name, Store Description, Refund & Return Policy, and Shipping Policy. You can also configure your Store Location and format Packing Slips within the Store Settings tab.

What are my responsibilities as a vendor?

If you choose to participate as a vendor in LocalStrong.org’s marketplace, you are responsible for your own operations, including obtaining the necessary permits and licenses required to sell items and remittance of all state, local, and federal taxes. LocalStrong.org is simply a platform to enhance your business. LocalStrong.org does not assume any obligation or risk for your business activities.

  • Free Shipping of Items RequiredAs a vendor on our site, you must agree to ship items for free within the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Please accommodate this requirement within the price of your item or consider a Local Pickup Only listing if your item is difficult to ship.
  • Return PoliciesPer LocalStrong.org policy, the 4.5% administrative fee collected during checkout that supports LocalStrong.org and our Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash program cannot be refunded to customers. Therefore, the maximum refund a vendor can provide on any given purchase is 95.5%. Please specify any additional refund or return policies that you may have clearly to your customers.
  • Listings Must Be Accurate and Truthful. Please help us create an honest and transparent marketplace by representing your items with accurate photos and descriptions.

How do I create a listing?

Visit the Add a Marketplace Listing page to get started. Prior to adding a marketplace listing, you must have configured a Stripe Account within your Store Settings tab of your Vendor Dashboard.

Fees

Is there a listing fee associated with Marketplace Listings or Local Pages?

No! All listings are free to create. LocalStrong.org only takes a small percentage fee upon the sale of certain marketplace listings.

Is there a transaction fee or administrative fee charged to the listing owner upon sale of an item?

LocalStrong.org charges a minimal transaction fee of 4.5% to the listing owner for all sales processed through our checkout interface. Of this 4.5%, 3.5% supports LocalStrong.org and 1% supports animal rescue through our Doggie Dollars and Kitty Cash Program.

Upon sale of an item, listing owners are also responsible for associated credit card processing fees. Currently, Stripe fees are 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.

Payments & Refunds through Stripe

How do I get paid?

Marketplace listings for shippable goods, event tickets, local vouchers, fundraisers, advertising space, and digital items require payment processing through LocalStrong.org’s online checkout interface. Payment to you as the vendor will be made through our payment processor, Stripe, upon customer checkout.

An administrative fee of 4.5% that supports LocalStrong.org and our Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash program will be automatically deducted from your payout. As the vendor, you are also responsible for associated credit card processing fees. Currently, Stripe fees are 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.

Marketplace listings for Local Pickup Only Items, “Contact Me First” Products, and events without tickets are information-only listings and no payment is processed through LocalStrong.org. Any payment negotiations for these listings is solely between the listing owner and customer because the transaction does not take place via our website.

How do I set up my Stripe account?

Set up your Stripe Account by visiting the Store Settings tab of your Vendor Dashboard. Click the “Connect with Stripe” button. You will be redirected to an activation page to fill out your Stripe account and payment details. If you already have a Stripe account, you will be able to Sign In by clicking the link in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Follow the prompts to connect your Stripe Account. You will be automatically redirected to LocalStrong.org upon completion.

When and how are payments made?

Stripe automatically initiates vendor payments upon the sale of an item. Customers will see two charges on their credit card for any given purchase – one from the business name provided upon your Stripe Registration and one from LocalStrong.org for the 4.5% administrative fee.

How do I initiate a refund to my customer?

Login to your Stripe dashboard and visit the Payments tab. Click on the applicable Order in the list of processed payments. On the next screen, you will see a “Refund” button underneath the payment processed. Click the button, enter the amount to be refunded and click “Refund” at the bottom of the screen. Per LocalStrong.org policy, the maximum refund vendors are able to refund to customers is 95.5% of the purchase price. The 4.5% administrative fee to LocalStrong.org is not able to be refunded.

I’m having trouble with my Stripe Account. How can I receive assistance?

Stripe has a wonderful support team that can be accessed through Live Chat on their Support Page. If you are still having trouble, also feel free to submit a support ticket through LocalStrong.org’s Contact Page.

Tickets & Vouchers

LocalStrong.org offers a platform for members to organize and sell printable tickets to community events or vouchers for local business services within our marketplace. Organizers of events and vouchers are responsible for their own operations. LocalStrong.org is not a party to any offline arrangements or interactions that may occur at any given event or business. Your use of our platform and any Services, content, information, products, or materials on our website is entirely at your own risk, for which we shall not be liable. Any member of LocalStrong.org has the ability to use our platform to list a voucher or host an event in their community. We do not screen users of our Services and cannot monitor or control operations or conduct at these events, and therefore, are not liable for any harm resulting from user conduct, including illegal conduct. Use your own judgment when choosing to meet or interact with others.

I’ve purchased a ticket or voucher from LocalStrong.org’s Local Marketplace. How do I redeem my ticket or voucher?

Find links to print your purchased tickets & vouchers in the Tickets & Vouchers tab of your Account Dashboard. The event host or voucher owner will be able to check in your ticket via a QR code or through their Vendor Dashboard upon receiving your ticket.

I am a vendor who has sold tickets or vouchers. How do I check in tickets and vouchers from customers?

Manual Check-In. Visit the Ticket & Voucher Check-In tab of your Vendor Dashboard to see all tickets and vouchers sold per listing. Match the Ticket/Voucher ID number to the ticket presented by the customer and click “Check In Now” to check in & validate the ticket or voucher.

Check-In with QR Codes. Tickets and vouchers are also pre-populated with QR codes to facilitate the check-in process. The QR code is displayed as a black and white symbol in the upper right hand corner of the ticket and each QR code contains a unique identifier to check in the ticket. To validate tickets using the QR code, first login to your LocalStrong.org account on your mobile or tablet device where you intend to scan the QR code. Then, use any QR reader app to scan the QR code. You will be automatically redirected to a check-in interface that will allow you to check-in the ticket presented to you.

For first-time users, we suggest using the Google Chrome app to facilitate the check-in process with QR codes.

  1. Download the Google Chrome app from the App Store or Google Play on your mobile or tablet device.
  2. Open the app and click in the white address bar at the top of the screen where the URL (“https://…”) is displayed.
  3. Browse to https://us.localstrong.org and login as usual.
  4. Click the white address bar again and look for the QR code symbol that appears above your keyboard (look above the letters QWE).
  5. Click the QR code icon and allow the app access to your camera.
  6. Capture the QR code image by holding your camera over the QR code that is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the printed ticket.
  7. Use the check-in interface that appears to check in the ticket.

What is Local Talk?

Local Talk is LocalStrong.org’s blogging platform. Members are encouraged to blog about everything and anything meaningful to their local community to create a platform of thought-provoking stories and ideas about local, by local.

Is it free to share content on Local Talk?

It is free to post content on Local Talk and we encourage all members to do so!

How do I share content on Local Talk?

Sharing content is easy! Simply visit our Share Your Content page and fill out the required fields. Our Content Editor allows text and images, as well as embedded podcasts hosted through Lisbyn and embedded YouTube videos that can be inserted by copying and pasting the URL of the video anywhere inside the Content Editor.

How do I monetize by blog?

We encourage bloggers to monetize their blogs by selling advertising space in our Local Marketplace. Ad space listings are an opportunity for you to earn income through your writing by having local businesses advertise on your blog while you help local businesses gain visibility. Rates and duration for advertising opportunities are up to you!

Bookmarks, Comments & Social Interaction

How do I bookmark content?

Bookmark links appear at the bottom of all content pages. Simply click the link to bookmark content for future reading. Your bookmarks are private and viewable only to you. You can access your bookmarks by visiting the Favorites tab of your profile.

How do I recommend content?

Links to recommend content appear at the bottom of all marketplace listings, blog posts, and Local Pages. Click the link to recommend content to your followers. Your recommendation will appear in the ‘Recommended’ section of your followers’ home page, as well as in the ‘Favorites’ tab of your profile. Unlike Bookmarks, Recommendations are not private and are visible to other members.

How do I leave comments & reviews?

Comments and reviews are accessible at the bottom of all marketplace listings, blog posts, and Local Pages. Select your Star Rating for marketplace listings and Local Pages and leave a written review to share your experiences with other members.

Can I modify comments and reviews?

Content owners have access to remove reviews or mark a review as spam at their discretion. To remove a review or comment, navigate to the review as presented on your listing, Local Page, or blog post and use the menu at the bottom of the comment to edit or remove as necessary.

If you are the author of a comment or review, you have the ability to edit or remove your content indefinitely.

What happens when I follow another member?

Links to follow other members appear throughout the site on content pages as well as member profiles. When you click the icon to follow another member, their content will appear on your home page as well as in the What’s New From My Connections page. Their recommendations will also appear in the ‘Recommended’ area of your home page. Following members keeps you up to date on the latest content from your local community and helps you connect and interact with new members.

What is LocalStrong.org’s Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash Program?

LocalStrong.org’s Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash Program helps support animal rescue with LocalStrong.org purchases.

Customers earn 1% back in Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash with every LocalStrong.org purchase from our Local Marketplace. Customers can then choose a participating animal welfare organization to which to donate their Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash, and LocalStrong.org will turn those points into a monetary donation that assists our furry friends every calendar quarter.

Our Doggie Dollars & Kitty Cash program is funded by LocalStrong.org vendors who sell items through LocalStrong.org’s online checkout interface. The 4.5% administrative fee that is remitted upon every sale includes 1% to fund this important program.
